Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that may be caused by a number of different bacteria or viruses and typically causes the air spaces of the lungs to become filled with pus and other liquids. This infection prevents oxygen from reaching the blood and causes difficulty in breathing. If left untreated, pneumonia can cause death. Although, this disease can strike anyone at any time, the elderly and those persons with immunosuppressive disorders (AIDS, cancer) are at the greatest risk for developing severe and life-threatening pneumonias.

Home Medical Equipment for Pneumonia Patients

As with many respiratory diseases, equipment used in the treatment of pneumonia can be a nebulizer or oxygen delivery products depending on the severity of the disease. If the disease is severe, then hospital beds and suction machines may be necessary. Other medical equipment may be needed in instances where pneumonia has caused general loss of function.
